Dublin is, in my opinion at least, one of the most creative cities in the world. There is a nice mix of street art, statues, historical and modern buildings and other constructions. And today, I’m showing you the best of them. Enjoy!
What we'll cover in this article
ART IN DUBLIN, IRELAND
Street Art in Dublin
One of my favourite things about discovering a new city is to wander around the back alleys and discover some amazing pieces of street art around every corner. In Dublin, you can head over to Temple Bar to find some good works, as well as at the Docklands or in the Creative Quarter.
The George Bernard Shaw
The George Bernard Shaw bar and restaurant, or simple ‘The Shaw’, is a place you might overlook when walking past, but will definitely surprise you once you step inside.
First of all, the place is a lot bigger inside than you would expect, and secondly, it’s a lot funkier as well. The beer garden (which was a bit cold and windy when I visited in Winter, but is likely to be packed in Summer) features the ‘Blue Bus’ pizzeria (it’s actually a bus, yes), walls full of graffiti in all colours, a pool table and lots of space to sit with a drink and some friends. cool cool cool.
Dublin Statues
You could probably spend all day walking around Dublin spotting statues of famous people around the city, and I picked a couple for you that caught my eye:

The Linesman (at City Quay) by Dony MacManus, 1999

The Dubliners
With parents who can definitely be called Dubliners fans (and I even went to one of their concerts in Amsterdam years ago), of course I could not miss a short visit to the famous pub where they began performing in the early 1960s.
Music is a big part of Dublin’s history and traditional Irish music is what you can find at O’Donoghue’s. Many musicians came (and still come) to play and drink here daily.

Doors, Doors, Doors!
Oh, don’t get me started on my secret love for pretty doors. I’ve hunted them down in Italy and Malta among other places, but perhaps Dublin’s doors are the best looking, don’t you agree?

Architecture in Dublin
If you’re a lover of architecture, make sure not to skip the following buildings and constructions:
Trinity College (look for the best tours & tickets here)
The Spire
George’s St. Arcade
Guinness Storehouse (look for the best tours and tickets here)
St Patrick’s Cathedral
Samuel Beckett Bridge
The Docklands
Accommodation in Dublin:
- I’ve you’re looking for budget options, I would recommend to check out the hostelworld website for good hostel recommendations.
- For hotels, make sure to check out the Booking.com website.
- I stayed at The Dean Hotel, which was great in terms of style, but it was a little bit noisy as there was a pub nearby (could depend on the day, I guess).
