The slogan of the Magdas Hotel in Vienna in Austria is ‘stay-openminded’. And that’s exactly what they are. And with a team of people speaking more than 23 languages, it’s hard not to feel welcome here.
Unique at Magdas, is that the staff are all immigrants: people from 14 different nations with very different backgrounds work here! As they say themselves: Magdas tries to solve social and economic problems with entrepreneurial tools. The hotel functions like every other company, just with a focus on openness and humanity, instead of just maximization profit.
REVIEW: Hotel Magdas Vienna, Austria
The building used to be a retirement home, now it’s very artsy with students from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna showcasing their art all around the hotel
Welcome to Magdas Hotel Vienna!
In the reception, you can find a photo wall with all the staff, so lovely
The room was very clean, all with upcycled furniture, which was quite cool. Most rooms don’t have a TV, but you can borrow a tablet at reception.
Some rooms have a balcony, which was perfect with this weather. Check the view!
The bathroom is very simple, for me there wasn’t enough space to put all my toiletries and the water from the shower gets everywhere, I think they can upgrade this a bit. Their house-soap is lovely though!
The breakfast room is simple with funky retro chairs
I really liked the breakfast in Magda: fresh bread, juice, yoghurt and a selection of hummus, couscous, cheeses and salads. Yum!
A great place to hang out: The Salon & Bar. There are many events held here, and in the library and conferences rooms as well.
The garden is just a perfect place to relax
You can borrow a bike from reception
LOVE the vintage suitcases that are all around the lobby!
Hotel Magdas is located next to the Prater Amusement Park, which isn’t very centrally located and the rooms don’t have some of the luxuries that most hotels often have. But, with a clear vision, Magdas is bringing something unique to the table and you can notice that in the friendliness of the staff, the food and overal feel of the place, so I would definitely recommend to check it out one day!
