During our short visit to the Roman town of Aquileia, we came across the owner of a local pub/restaurant. He invited us for a glass of wine, which of course there was no way we were saying no to that!
The theme of the restaurant did surprise us however… in a good way! Check it out:
Taberna Marciani in Aquileia, Italy
Yes, you’ve seen that right. This restaurant is completely styled with Roman design, including helmets and busts of Julius Ceasar. You can sit inside, hang at the bar, sit at the terrace or relax in the garden, space for an entire legion, I gues!
I LOVED how they have styled this place, I felt like I was stepping back in time for a moment. The owner told us that they do a massive reenactment here every year, so this place must look awesome with everyone eating and drinking here in full costume.
As I said, we only visited for a quick wine, but we also got a fantastic sharing platter to go along with it. Salami, ham, cheeses, you name it! I wonder what other food they serve here, but if the starter says anything, it must be great!
I can only judge this restaurant on their wine, sharing platter and interior, but on that they definitely score 5 out of 5 stars. What a cool spot to hang out! I would love to come back here during their reenactment festival, it must be incredible having a wine with a gladiator look-a-like, don’t you agree?!
Name: Taberna Marciani
Address: Via XXIV Maggio, 16, Aquileia UD, Italy
Order: I only had wine and a meat/cheese sharing board here, but would love to go back to taste more!
