Whenever we’re looking for good Asian food in London, our blogger friend Dylan always knows the best restaurants for us! That’s how we ended up at SuperStar BBQ, a Korean restaurant in Soho, where besides a good meal, you can go all crazy in their basement karaoke booth.

I was here one time before for lunch, but on my last visit, I couldn’t escape the karaoke, haha. I have to say, I’m still not a huge fan, but SuperStar BBQ is definitely worth a visit if you’re here for the food!

The restaurant is located right next to Tottenham Court Road, in a part of the city where people mostly work and don’t really live. During the day, it’s quite crowded as all office workers come here to have lunch, but in the evening it’s a bit dead here. From here, it’s a short stroll to the more busy part of Soho or Covent Garden, so it’s very central.

The restaurant ended up being quite full on Sunday night, so I would recommend to reserve a table, definitely if you’re arriving with a few people.

This photo was made during my Christmas-time visit, so don’t worry, that tree is not always there :)

The staff is friendly, although not quite on it, so you need a bit of patience and make sure you’re actually getting what you ordered.

Karaoke at SuperStar BBQ

The room in the basement of the restaurant is quite big, so if you’re only here with a few people, it can feel a bit daunting (depending on the amount of drinks you’ve had before, I do think). I’d recommend dinner first, then karaoke, not the other way around as we did.

You will get a book with mainly Korean songs (marked in red), so flip through the book to the green pages if you actually want to recognise any songs. Then enter their number in the rather confusing machine… and sing your heart out!

You book the room for the hour and every 15 minutes (or more often if you ask for it), staff will check if you want to order some drinks. The hour goes quite quickly, if only because it takes a while to find a song that’s actually something decent to sing, just so you know. We managed to push through about 5 songs, but to be honest, for me that was plenty!

The Food at SuperStar BBQ

Ok, so after screaming a bit into a microphone (there is a reason the door has to remain closed)… it’s time for food! There is a different lunch and inner menu, but I can recommend going for the BBQ menu at any time of the day.

You order a couple of dishes (mean/fish/veggies) and will get some lettuce, rice and sauces with that. And then it’s baking time! So much fun!

We also ordered a couple of starters, yum! Gyoza, squid prepared in two different ways, kimchi and kimchi pancake… can all recommend it!

Nick is waiting patiently for fellow bloggers Alicia & Ed and me are done taking photos :) Oh the joys of being an Instagram husband, haha!

If you’re looking for good Asian food that gives a bit of a unique dining experience, then SuperStar BBQ is a nice place to go to. You can easily go here with a bigger group (don’t skip the karaoke in that case) and I think it’s also suitable to visit with (not too young) kids.

  • I’ve never been a fan of what my Asian friends call “white people karaoke,” but I love Korean-style karaoke. And Korean BBQ is my absolute favorite. I live in a small town just outside of Atlanta, Georgia in the US, and we’re pretty much the Koreatown of Atlanta. There’s a Korean BBQ and karaoke place on just about every street corner, in addition to Korean grocery stores, bakeries, and other unique shops. Even the street signs are written in Korean just as much as in English. At one point, I was eating Korean BBQ three times a week, but I’ve calmed down a bit now haha. You should give the karaoke another shot though. It might grow on ya. I think it took me a couple of times to really relax and feel at home. It depends on how comfortable you are with the people you’re with as well, I suppose. Oh, and if you haven’t tried it already, order the yogurt soju. It tastes like candy, and you’ll never know you’re drinking alcohol. It’s a karaoke staple according to most my friends. Love the post — the food looks delicious, and I’ll hafta check it out once I finally make it to London. <3

    • That’s so cool Jillian, never knew there was such a thing even as ‘koreatown’, how amazing, you’re lucky to live there! Oooh and that yoghurt Soju sounds right up my alley, must definitely try that next time!
