When you come to Menorca, eating out is probably one of the main activities of your day and for this, you happen to be in luck. There are loads of good restaurants on the island and many of them serve typical local food, but you have to know where to look for them!

Today, we’re having a look behind the meal we had at “Moli Des Raco” (Raco’s Mill), where they serve up authentic, big-sized portions of Menorcan food.

The Entree

Moli d’es Raco is a family farm located in the charming village of Es Mercadal in central Menorca. From Mahón, it’s about a 20 minute drive by car and there is a big parking lot next to the mill, so easy as! The restaurant in this former windmill was founded in 1982 and they serve locally sourced meat and vegetables.

The Interior

On the inside, you wouldn’t know you’re in a windmill anymore, but it’s definitely charming. There are three big dining rooms with long tables, seating over 200 people. While it can feel a bit crowded, it definitely brings a nice atmosphere!

We went for a tapas-style dinner, where small (well, actually still quite big) plates of food were served in rotation. We couldn’t even eat so fast, that the plates ended up being stacked on top of each other, haha.

The Food

Our guide told us that while the food in other restaurants on the island might be a bit more refined, here at Moli it’s all about the hearty, typical Menorcan food. That means big portions, so go easy on the bread beforehand!

At Moli d’es Raco you can expect an atmospheric, lively dinner made from fresh meat and vegetables from the owner’s own backyard. A perfect pitstop when you’re on a road trip around the island. Make sure you come with an empty stomach, because there is plenty to go around! Ask for the ‘menu del dia‘ (menu of the day) around lunchtime (not printed, so let them inform you, their English is good) to get the best deal of the day. While there is enough seating space, it can be very busy here, so I recommend to book ahead.
