Pack Light And Still Feel You’re In A Spa with Lush Handmade Cosmetics

Shampoo bottles are really not that well thought off. They are bulky, heavy, environmentally not all that good and after every form of transportation during a trip, you are likely to find its contents dripping off your clean shirts and socks. Thank heaven there is Lush.

Lush has a wide range of cosmetic products, from shampoos to shaving creams and from bath soap to perfume, but the reason why I love them most is because a lot of their products are perfect for travelling.

These are my top 5 tips for Lush products you should pack on your next trip:

1.    Godiva Solid Shampoo

This bright looking and fantastic smelling little (mayor space saver) soap bar is two in one: Shampoo AND Conditioner. So whenever you want to travel light, or just with a carry-on bag, this product is perfect for you. It is solid (so can be taken aboard with you on the plane), doesn’t drip and one piece will last you months (rub soap over wet hands or hair a couple of times to give you plenty of foam). The Jasmine scent is just amazing and won’t go away after a while. Your hair will smell fresh and feel soft all day, even if you use just a little.

GREAT DEAL: If you buy two pieces, you will get a cute round tin to keep your shampoo bar in! (also sold separately) EUR€8.95 # AUS$13.50 # NZ$15.90 # GBP£6.00 # USA$ and CAN$10.95 for 55g (1.9oz) – This product is Vegan, Meltable and can be bought ‘Naked’ (without any packaging, go green!).

2.   9 to 5 Cleanser

At first I wasn’t quite sure how to use this product, but I guess the answer was just too simple: take a handful of the creamy, white orchid oil and smooth it all out over your face. Take a cotton wipe and go over your face again. That’s it. No water needed, no extra trips to the bathroom, no need for a face cream afterwards. This cleanser is great for a quick clean after a Big Night Out (even when you’re already in bed – and yes, it will remove your mascara easily), or why not bring it with you in your daypack and keep a fresh face all day long while exploring the planet?

GREAT DEAL: If you get the small bottle (95g, so under the maximum of 100g of liquids for your carry-on bag), you could easily freshen yourself up after a long flight. EUR€7.25/14.95 # AUS$7.95/15.95 # NZ$9.90/19.90 # GBP£4.50/8.95 # USA$ and CAN$ 9.95/19.95 for 95g (3.4oz)/240g (8.5oz) – This product is Vegan

Dream Cream, Dreamwash Smoothie, 9 to 5 Cleanser and Jumping Juniper Solid Shampoo

3.    Dream Cream

The tub this cream comes in might be a little big for travelling (they only have one size), but it is sturdy and the cap closes well. The cream lasts very long and is perfect for troubled skin. The combination of chamomile, oat milk and lavender is a scent you need to get used to, but it definitely reduces any redness or irritation of the skin and makes it feel soft like a blanket. Perfect for an instant ‘Spa-feeling’ whilst on the road.

GREAT DEAL: Save the tubs, because you will get a free face mask when returning 5 of them! EUR€18.95 # AUS$28.95 # NZ$37.90 # GBP£10.75 # USA$ and CAN$25.95 for 240 g (8.4oz) – This product is Vegan

4.   Dream Wash Smoothie

Every now and then, I just want to scoop a little extra shower gel (or in this case more of a paste) onto my hands while bathing. The Dream Wash Smoothie is a nice change from a piece of soap and still you won’t have to use much to feel like you’re spoiling yourself. This cream is soothing and calming and contains a delicious mix of Chamomile, Calamine, Calming Aloe Vera, Rose, Tea Tree and Lavender essential oils.

GREAT DEAL: This is one of the top sellers on Lush. Time to try it yourself. (Be aware though, I left one tub in a hostel shower once, it got taken after less than 5 minutes (So… Use it, Love it, Lock it!) EUR€14.95 # AUS$25.95 # NZ$28.20 # GBP£9.25 # USA$ and CAN$21.95 for 250 g (8.8oz) – This product is Vegan

Lemslip Body Butter (top left, unfortunately out of their product range), Godiva Solid Shampoo (bottom left) and Aromaco Deodorant (right)

5.    Aromaco Deodorant

When using this product, the hippie in me made a little dance and grabbed a tree to hug. Ok, the strong patchouli scent is something you have to get used to, and you get it all over your fingers (use a piece of baking paper to prevent this from happening), but this product is so clever and perfect for travelling, you just have to love it. This deodorant looks like a piece of soap, and you can rub it under your arms, but also over the rest of your body if you desire. It is cooling, astringent, takes away nasty smells and is soothing for the skin. You can use it straight after shaving and can keep it in your carry-on luggage to use on the plane.

GREAT DEAL: Apparently the combination with Lush’s dusting powders is a perfect match! And don’t forget to use the deodorant on your feet as well! EUR€6.95 # AUS$10.70 # NZ$13.19 # GBP£4.40 # USA$ and CAN$6.95 for 100 g (3.5oz) – This product is Vegan and can be bought ‘Naked’.

Environmental friendly

Lush products make the perfect gift for a travelling friend or family member. Especially the solid shampoo bars are a huge space saver, won’t leak and will last you forever.

Another great thing about their range, is that they are very passionate about natural materials and green ways of producing and packaging their products. About half of their cosmetic products can be bought ‘naked’, which means without any packaging at all!

They save on 6 million plastic bottles globally from selling shampoo bars alone. Even when they can’t avoid packaging, they use recycled materials. I Like.

Lush prefers to use ingredients that are produced sustainable (so no palm oil for example) and make products that are biodegradable. Over 70% of their range is totally unpreserved. Oh Yeah!

Other Tips For Travelling With Lush Products

  • When the soap bars start to stick in their containers, add a piece of baking powder to the bottom of the tin to solve this.
  • Lush’s massage bars will melt in your hands and can also be used as body lotion. There’s a special oval tin for them as well.
  • The ‘It’s a Wrap’ toilet bag has enough space for several containers. You even get some with it when ordering.
  • Have you tried Lush’s Lip Balm yet? And their Solid Perfume?
  • The ‘Jumping Juniper’ solid shampoo smells of Lavender and stays solid, no matter how hot it gets. It will also control oily hair and is a Vegan product.
  • If you’re looking for a great piece of soap, then ‘Honey, I washed the Kids’ is the one you’re looking for. Soft like butter, divine Honey and Toffee (yes, Toffee) smell, Foamy and just simply perfect in a little square tin.

Favourite travel products

With a wide product range of cleverly designed, nature friendly and long lasting cosmetic products, Lush is a winner for me – especially when it comes to packing for my travels.

You can visit one of their many stores all over the world or order directly from their website. A little warning though, Lush is very addictive and you will probably buy much more products than you intended. Ah well, in that case you just have to plan yourself another trip I guess…

With what Lush product would you love to spoil yourself while travelling?

Disclaimer: The Lemslip Body Butter, Godiva Solid Shampoo and Aromaco Deodorant were generously donated by Lush – The Netherlands to www.aroundtheglobe.nl, a Dutch travel website where I wrote the original review for. After that, I’ve purchased some additional products and compiled my top 5 favourites list for this blog post. I do not get any commission from purchases made on the Lush website. All opinions and fresh smells are my own.

  • Great post! I am planning a 12 month RTW trip and am having so much fun testing all the different Lush products at the moment. I love it that they reduce waste and are organic and vegetarian/vegan!

    • Thanks Jenny. I also love them for being environmental friendly and organic, it’s always so hard to find products that are – and that still look so great! Good luck with your trip, exciting times!
