I love companies that change the way people travel. That move away from a certain way we’ve done things in the past and look at how we can improve products and services in the future.
When I heard about the concept of Hotels by Day, I got curious right away. This service, where you can book a day room in a hotel without paying for the night stay seems to add a much needed flexibility to the hospitality industry. Let me show you what it’s all about:
What we'll cover in this article
Check in AM. Check Out PM. Simple!
Some of the benefits of booking a hotel for just the day are obvious, and I’m sure we’ve all been there:
1. LONG LAYOVER
When you have a layover of a couple of hours, nothing is worse than hanging around the airport, right? I remember when I had a layover of 8 hours in Sydney once, I went into the city to do some last minute sightseeing, but you’re not always in that mood or perhaps have the energy left to do so.
Just booking into a hotel for this time (they also have a couple of airport hotels, so you don’t even have to go into the city for this) seems like a great solution to arrive fresh on your final destination.
2. ARRIVING EARLY
I usually never book flights that arrive super early, because of opening times of shops, restaurants and places to go sightseeing. But with Hotels by Day you don’t seems to have to worry about this, because now you can just check into the day use hotel, freshen up (or sleep a couple of extra hours), have a breakfast (bonus!) and start the day when everyone around you does.
And of course the best thing is that you can have the room until PM checkout, so you could even do some sightseeing or shopping (or perhaps have a business meeting or job interview) and come back to hotel after that!
Rejuvenate Yourself at Hotels by Day
The two ways of using the Hotel by Day that I mentioned above might be the first things that come to mind when thinking about the concept, but I dare you to take things even a bit further. My favourite modern philosopher Alain de Botton once said about hotels:
“Hotel rooms are the new monasteries: ideal places to withdraw from the world to think and get a new perspective on your life”
Ok, maybe that’s a bit too deep for you, but I like the general thought of it. Why stay in a hotel overnight just to sleep when you can book a hotel room for the day? Why not take a bit more advantage of the possibilities they have to offer? Let me give you some examples:
3. TAKE A DAYCATION
We don’t always have to travel far to experience that holiday feeling. With Hotels by Day, you can now book a hotel for just a few hours and enjoy the benefits of the central location, the buffet breakfast, the fitness equipment, perhaps even the pool and the spa. You can book a boutique hotel, but also beach hotels, city hotels and even cruise ports and resorts. Whatever you need!
Get ready for some serious ‘me’ time, read a book, watch TV, do some writing… and see how refreshed you can feel after a short mini-holiday in your own backyard.
4. REMOTE OFFICE
Did you know that a lot of writers book hotel rooms to finish their novels? This always sounded so romantic to me and I always thought about what that would be like, haha. I can see how the quiet, solitary hotel room would help in eliminating all distractions that you have when working from home, but it also sort of gives the job a bit of glamour, doesn’t it? :)
If working on your own is not your thing, of course hotels could be a great place to meet up with others to collaborate on a project. At Hotels by Day, you can ever book a conference room if needed, perfect for those freelancers like us who sometimes need to meet clients, but don’t have their own office to do so. Problem solved!
