If there is one way we love to explore a city, it’s by following the street art from one place to another. We already wrote guides on street art in Nantes (France), street art in Glasgow (Scotland) and street art in Berlin (Germany), but somehow we never got around to see and write about the street art that you can find in our own city: London.
Luckily, we got in touch with the people from Intrepid’s sister company “Urban Adventures” and they took us on a tour around Camden Town. This is what we experienced:
Camden Street Art London Tour with Urban Adventures
“Urban Adventures” is a new division of Intrepid Travel, a leading experiential tour company that I travelled with to South-East Asia on my second world trip in 2008 (can recommend them for sure!). At Urban Adventures, it’s all about responsible tourism and they make sure all their tours are run by local experts.
All of their tours are made so you have authentic interactions with local people, businesses, transportation, and food and drink. In this case, we got connected to Nelly Balazs, an artist herself who is passionate about street art in general and that of London in particular. She could not only show us the latest and most important works in the Camden area, but she also knew the stories behind the images and often even knew the artists personally. Nelly is also a so-called “wall-organiser”, so she helps artists source legal spaces to work on their next pieces. On some of the works, she even helped out herself, how cool is that?!
Here are some of our favourite shots from during the walk, of course we can recommend going on the tour yourself to hear more about the stories behind the works you can see here:

When nightclubs close in London… Pigs are being drawn :)
As you can see from our review on this Camden street art tour, Urban Adventures is not just your average tour. Here, it’s really about the travel experience, about connecting with a destination in a unique and meaningful way. And that is exactly what The Travel Tester is all about! We got to meet a local from inside the street art community and she could explain certain things about the works (she even worked on some of them!) that no other tour guide could ever do. At the same time, we walked through some amazing back alleys of Camden that we would otherwise never have found ourselves. All Urban Adventures tours have a maximum size of 12 people, which keeps it nice and personal, and they run even when you’re the only one signed up for that day, so a fun day is guaranteed! Immerse yourself in the street art of London and we’d love to hear what you find on your trip, as of course the works keep changing all the time. Never a dull moment in London! Enjoy!
Fun for: Anyone interested in Street Art, you can even bring your dog as this tour is pet-friendly!
Less fun for: Children that are too small perhaps? Although we think they could still enjoy the murals even if they don’t understand the full stories behind them, so if they can behave for 2 hours in a group, bring them for sure! This tour is marked child-friendly (tickets available for kids aged 6-11) and children under the age of 6 are even free of charge.
Think about: Tours go ahead in all weather conditions so bring a rain jacket/umbrella. It’s London after all!
